St. John’s Polo Posse: Gave Rise to a Nation
-
A story of origin. A story of defiance. A story of culture before it had a name.
St. Johns Polo Posse documents the rise of three young Caribbean boys—roots in Haiti, Trinidad, and Puerto Rico—who moved through Crown Heights, Brooklyn like a unit. Bound by circumstance, driven by vision, they formed what became known as The Polo Posse.
In the mid-1980s, they weren’t chasing fashion—they were claiming identity. Draped in Ralph Lauren as armor, they redefined what luxury looked like on Black and Caribbean youth in America. What was never intended for them became theirs.
What they didn’t know then: they were setting a precedent.
A cultural blueprint that would ripple through fashion, music, and street identity for decades.
From St. Johns Place to Troy Avenue, this is more than a moment in time—it’s the foundation of a movement.
This is not nostalgia.
This is origin.
